Tanquerey Bio, from Harper's Dictionary of Theology

 

Tanquerey, Adolf Alfred, 1854-1932.  Theologian and priest of the Society of St. Sulpice.  He was born in France, where he taught theology and performed various priestly ministries.  He also taught dogmatic and moral theology as well as canon law at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Maryland (1887-1902).  Tanquerey composed manuals of dogmatic, moral, and spiritual theology that were widely used in the seminaries of France, the United States, and elsewhere.  His The Spiritual Life: A Treatise on Ascetical and Mystical Theology (English trans., 1930) served seminaries and novitiates until Vatican II (1962-65). as a standard manual for spiritual theology.
